In early February 2025 the coulton team decide to embrace the world of AI. Starting gently with ChatGPT we decided to have a conversation with Chat GPT asking it to perform a technical comparrison between Orifice Plates and Vortex meters and looking at their suitability for use on Saturated Steam at pressures less than 1 Barg.
Why? Firstly we believe that the selection of control and instrumentation products should be based on technical and commercial criteria. Our guidance comes from ISO and BS standards along with engineering design calculations. So chatting with ChatGPT and using BS7405:1991 as a starting point, were developed the conversation in to a robust comparrison between the two flowmeter types.

Over the coming weeks we will release the chat in a number of parts, that ask AI to consider pipework and application factors that shoul be taken into account when selecting a flowmeter for low pressure saturated steam.
